NEIL YOUNG announces plans to further immortalize his 1972 album Harvest with a 50th Anniversary Edition. Young's fourth solo album remains one of the most beloved in his catalog and is dense with songs that have long-permeated radio waves. The impressive 50th Anniversary Edition Box Sets will be released December 2nd on Vinyl and CD, boasting the original album, three studio outtakes on CD/7" vinyl, an unreleased live 1971 BBC performance on CD, LP and DVD, a previously unseen 2-hour documentary filmed in 1971, which captures the making of Harvest from start to finish. Also included in the package is a hardbound book and fold-out poster. The vinyl box sets include a lithograph print.

It would be impossible to overstate the influence of Harvest in the realm of popular music. Beyond selling millions of copies, going #1 in numerous countries, and spawning timeless tracks like the restless "Heart of Gold" and reflective "Old Man," the resonance of Young's poignant and incisive songwriting on the record has inspired countless songwriters over the past five decades to plumb the depths of their own experiences. Harvest continues to serve as both an artifact of early '70s California and an artistic vision that resonates through the ages.

Fans of the record will receive another glimpse into that vision through the two DVDs included in the box set. The first is Harvest Time, an unreleased two-hour film shot during the making of Harvest, with footage from Young's Broken Arrow Ranch in Northern California and recording sessions in Nashville and London. The second is a film of the same unreleased BBC Concert recorded on February 23, 1971, that also exists in the box set as a standalone audio experience. Also included are three unreleased tracks from the original Harvest sessions: "Bad Fog of Loneliness," "Journey Through The Past," and "Dance Dance Dance."

Additionally, the hardbound book will include never-before-seen photos along with extensive liner notes by photographer, producer, and musician Joel Bernstein. Bernstein points out, in a personal note, that during the last 50 years many of the people who contributed to this record have passed away. Danny Whitten, Young's Crazy Horse bandmate, died of a heroin overdose the same year "The Needle and The Damage Done"—a song about heroin addiction from Harvest—was released. Besides Whitten, we've also lost, "every member of the Stray Gators (Kenny Buttrey, Tim Drummond, Jack Nitzsche and Ben Keith), producer Elliot Mazer, engineer Henry Lewy, manager Elliot Roberts, and art director Tom Wilkes. Gone too is the muse of the Harvest album, Carrie Snodgress," Bernstein writes. "These songs and recordings ensure that none of them will ever be forgotten."

The Harvest 50th Anniversary collection immortalizes the ragged brilliance of one of his most fruitful, vital periods.
