Fresh from a tour as special guest of Liam Gallagher and John Squire, British rock troubadour Jake Bugg returns with his forthcoming sixth album, A Modern Day Distraction.
New single "Zombieland" is a bone-crunching, guitar-driven Beatles-via-Nirvana banger and a rollicking ode to the many who are broken by the inescapable daily grind and slogging through with a stiff upper lip. "It's fucking brutal," he says of the people he knows who live in a constant cycle of work and life. "They don't get paid what they're worth. People have the same routine every day, they're at work more than with their kids, and then the government raises the retirement age. It's not right."
Produced by Metrophonic at Metrophonic Studios in London, Jake returns to his roots on the rocking 'A Modern Day Distraction' - an album that raises the noise while shining a light on the injustice he has experienced towards his family and friends. The fiery and engaging album was born out of frustration with societal inequality. Bugg found a time had come when he just couldn't look away anymore; people might say 'what do you know?' or 'just stick with the music'. "I've got a bit of money but we all know the people that are affected by it. I just wrote it because that's how I felt. It makes me angry, especially in a country like ours where we have the means and the money to look after the people that are suffering the most but we don't."
