Khatia Buniatishvili performs two of Mozart's great piano concertos for the first time. And not just on the piano, she also conducts the legendary Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. The lively "Sonata facile" rounds off the program.

For her highly anticipated 2024 Sony Classical album, pianist Khatia Buniatishvilli has chosen music by the great composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for the first time, with whose music she has a special relationship: "Mozart's music," says Buniatishvili, "has a simplicity in which you lose yourself before you find yourself".

The two piano concertos No. 20 and No. 23 form the core of the new album. In these two concertos, Mozart took the genre to new heights of sophistication and communicative power. They have long been regarded as touchstones for great pianists and recording artists. In this recording, she is accompanied by an orchestra that is virtually unrivaled in Mozart recordings and has released numerous benchmark recordings, including the soundtrack to the film "Amadeus", which won 13 gold awards - the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

The album is complemented by the Piano Sonata No. 16, the so-called "little sonata for beginners" - a work whose outward simplicity contains a playful introduction to the art of composition. It was written in 1788, three years before the composer's death, and only published after his death.
