Maazel, Lorin - Lorin Maazel Conducts the Cleveland Orchestra 15CD
BR Klassik recently portrayed the conductor Lorin Maazel under the heading "The all-rounder". This is also reflected in his recordings with the legendary Cleveland Orchestra, which he conducted from 1972 to 1982 as the successor to George Szell and which are collected here for the first time on 15 CDs. These include showpieces such as Strauss' "Ein Heldenleben" or Berlioz' "Symphonie fantastique", which impressively demonstrate Maazel's superior technical brilliance, but also his Beethoven symphony cycle, which has been somewhat neglected to date, or the three great Tchaikovsky symphonies. Available for the first time on CD are recordings of Brahms' First Symphony (a recording from the then newly opened Sydney Opera House), Barber and Berlioz, as well as Maazel's own "Symphonic Realizations" of chansons by the French pop star Lama.
