As evidenced from the reception for Houserocker: A Joe Grushecky Anthology and Can’t Outrun A Memory (his first new album in years, containing “This Is Who We Are”—which landed the number 8 spot for The Coolest Song in the World 2024 on Little Steven Van Zandt’s Underground Garage), the world clearly needs more Joe Grushecky.
Iron City Houserockers burst onto the music scene with their 1979 release Love’s So Tough, but their third album, 1981’s Blood On The Bricks, is one that fans hold dear. Head Houserocker Joe Grushecky and company (Eddie Britt, Art Nardini, Gil Snyder, Ned Rankin, and Marc Reisman) teamed up with legendary guitarist and songwriter Steve Cropper for a record that also stands tall in the entirety of the heartland rock genre.
For its CD debut, Blood On The Bricks’ original 9 tracks are joined by 11 previously unissued bonus tracks, expanding the album to a double-CD set. A newly mixed outtake from the original sessions, a slew of demos, and four smoking live tracks from Cambridge, Massachusettes’ legendary Inn-Square Men’s Bar round out the set.
Released with full cooperation from Joe and Johnny Grushecky, the remastering adds new punch to this classic release, while the bonus material takes the listener on a journey from the albums’ inception through live workouts performed shortly after the album’s original release. Add in detailed liner notes from Joe Marchese (TheSecondDisc.com) featuring a new interview with Joe Grushecky, and you have the ultimate Blood On The Bricks experience.
