Robert Schumann's Töpferliebe and Kerner-Lieder on CD and a spectacular production of Franz Schubert's Schwanengesang on DVD - with his new album, Jonas Kaufmann presents key works from the German lied repertoire, together with his longstanding partner at the piano, Helmut Deutsch.
Like the album Selige Hour, the recordings of Robert Schumann's Töpferliebe and Kerner-Lieder were made during the first lockdown in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic. Looking back, it was a situation that was as bizarre as it was artistically creative, which, according to Helmut Deutsch, "made the recordings feel almost like 'house music', very different from the often sober halls or studios". For Jonas Kaufmann, it was a welcome opportunity to get to grips with the Töpferliebe again: "It is incredibly fortunate to be able to sing this cycle, both as a young and as a mature singer. The Töpferliebe is unique, one of a kind in the entire song literature."
