Love Crowns and Crucifies revives the long-rumoured archive of Care, the brief but influential partnership between Paul Simpson and Ian Broudie, presented with Needle Mythology. Introduced by Will Sergeant in 1982, the pair quickly found a shared language that led to their three singles — ‘My Boyish Days’, ‘Flaming Sword’ and ‘Whatever Possessed You’. Though short-lived, the project gathered a passionate following, particularly in the Philippines. Drawn from the original quarter-inch tapes used for the 1997 Diamonds and Emeralds collection, this edition adds key discoveries: the tender ‘Colour and Sound’, an instrumental take of ‘On The White Cloud’, and early demos featuring Pete de Freitas. Newly mastered with approval from both members, it offers the fullest picture yet of Care’s melodic ambition.
