Joel Alme returns with new album “Gullmar Gospel” on March 13 and follows up with tour On March 13, Joel Alme will follow up the 2022 Grammis-winning “Take care of yourself, I won’t take care of mine” with the new album “Gullmar Gospel”. This is not a Stockholm depiction, rather the hub symbolizes a classless kind of place that there are quite a few of in Sweden today. – If everyone today, and especially young people, could have a part of Gullmarsplan in them, they would probably feel better and stop feeling like they are not enough, says Joel Alme. At Gullmarsplan, people from all directions and edges bump into each other every day. Young and old people on their way somewhere or nowhere at all. Some dressed up, others not. Someone is talking on the phone, someone else is talking to themselves. Some are stressed, others have their own methods of dealing with pressure. – It reminds me a lot of that time and the places that I grew up with. A perfect mix of different people from different backgrounds where no one is better or worse than anyone else. A place where everyone is struggling with their own thing and that's okay, you can live your life in different ways. Joel Alme refers to the square and the subway station in Stockholm that named his new album, but it could just as easily have applied to the album as a whole because more or less clearly that theme runs like a red thread through the eight songs. "Gullmar Gospel", the follow-up to the Grammis-winning album "Sköt er sälva så sköter jag inte mitt" from 2022, was recorded live on tape in Mattias Glavås' studio in Gothenburg. The album's analog warmth becomes a safe hand on our shoulder that guides us through life and, in songs like "TIll H när det nysökning", "I morgon är min bästa dag" and the album's first single "Hjärtat vet för mycket", says that one mistake is not the whole world, worries pass, everything will work out, you are actually good enough as you are and don't need to be someone else. – Compared to when I grew up, there are so many fewer doors for young people to go through today. It's like everyone has to go through the same door. In reality, you can be whoever you want. Between the lines of the lyrics it seeps through that what all people need more than anything else is love. And that there is always, for everyone, a time when everything was simpler. In “Peters Park” the lyrics go: This town is on fire But all you see are the blue lights Because all the kids have died on the road On pills from the doctor and the gang If I could afford it, everyone would get To a trip away from here Milo used to hang out on our farm I often think of him Or take the song “Rita Margarita”, based on a true story, about the woman who, in the autumn of her age, wants to cling so much to the slightly nicer life she once had that she robs a bank. – Once you admit to yourself that you are not perfect, life becomes much freer, but if you constantly feel like you have to be perfect, one day it will end in an explosion.
