La Peste was Boston's first true punk band, bridging the gap between the city's influential proto-punk scene of the 1970s and the college rock and hardcore punk of the 1980s and 1990s. This collection aims to tell the full story of La Peste, showcasing the band's unreleased studio and loft recordings alongside their two officially released tracks. These tracks are drawn from the studio session that produced the 7" single "Better Off Dead" (the band's only official recording), their 1978 session with Ric Ocasek of The Cars, a 1978 session at Electro Acoustic Studios, and 4-track loft recordings made in 1977 by Boston punks Billy Dafodil and Dave Cola. "If you listen to 'I Don't Know Right From Wrong,' I dare say you won't be able to stop once you start—imagine if these songs had been available when La Peste recorded them. Imagine this trio's atomic songs blasting from record stores and car stereos all over Boston, the East Coast, and across America. I have little doubt that's exactly what would have happened if this music had been released on vinyl in the late '70s. Instead, we have to be content with hearing it now—and wow, what a consolation prize! Everything on this album flies out of the speakers, it's fun, it's intense, and it's so full of barely containable energy that you feel like you've just injected yourself with caffeine.
