The Shocking Blue “Live In Japan” was recorded in July 1971 at the Kosei Nenkin Hall in Tokyo and includes massive hit songs such as “Venus”, “Hot Sand”, “Never Marry A Railroad Man” and “Shocking You”. Shocking Blue were a Dutch rock band, founded in 1967 by guitarist Robbie van Leeuwen. After the charismatic Mariska Veres took over on vocals, the group charted a worldwide hit with the song “Venus”, which peaked at No. 3 in the Netherlands in 1969. However the song reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1970. It topped the U.S. chart for three weeks, being the first song from the Netherlands to do so, receiving a gold record awarded by the Recording Industry Association of America. Eventually the global sales exceeded five million copies. Unfortunately Mariska Veres died of cancer on 2 December 2006 while Robbie van Leeuwen choses to hide from the public press.
