The Smithereens are a rock band from Carteret, New Jersey. The band was formed in 1980 fronted by singer Pat DiNizio. The 1989 album “11” is their third album produced by Ed Stasium (Ramones, Talking Heads, Living Colour a.o.). This album kicks off with their classic guitar rave-up “A Girl Like You”. There’s the power-pop track “Baby Be Good”, with The Honeys doing backing vocals and the folky “Blue Period”, with Belinda Carlisle of the Go Go’s on vocals together with Pat DiNizio. Lead singer Pat DiNizio died December 2017. The surviving members of the band, including original bass player and singer Mike Mesaros, performed together as The Smithereens in a tribute show to DiNizio in January 2018. The band was joined by Steven Van Zandt, Dave Davies, Southside Johnny, Marshall Crenshaw and various other musicians.
