New album Mono Freedom arrives 17th April 2020 via Playground Music.
Walking the line between NEU!-esque mechanical kraut and layered alt-rock, the group’s latest venture is a tightly wrapped evolution of arrangements; creating a mellifluous sound and theme throughout the full-length.
The evocative and relevant leitmotifs are evident from the new dual-single release. Frontman Eetu Iivari says, ‘I always wanted both tracks to go out at the same time and they do follow each other on the album for a reason. The tracks open the window to The Holy’s inner world of 2020 - way deeper than just releasing a regular single.”
In further discussion about the forthcoming LP Eetu says: “Mono Freedom is a utopian themed album. A fictional story about Mother Nature taking over the earth and how the last humans pack their stuff, build a rocket and head over to the nearest black hole. They know that there is probably nothing out there, but it’s one of humanity's last ideas. All this is seen as a positive, not as a dark dystopian vision, as is usually the case.”
“The record and the lyrical themes are inspired by Alan Weisman’s book The World Without Us; a classic science book that explores a bunch of scenarios of what would happen to Mother Earth if humans were to disappear today.”
The Holy are weathered from the European live circuit. Over the last couple of years The Holy have visited the UK, GSA and BENELUX on tour and have been showcased at Iceland Airwaves (KEXP filmed and broadcasted their 2019 set), Eurosonic, Reeperbahn and the Ja Ja Ja nights – both in London and Berlin.
Envisioning the album being transferred to a live setting, Eetu says: “I believe most of the songs are even better when performed. There are some instrumental parts we made in the studio and are hard to play live without a big orchestra, but there is so much creative energy in this band that we sure will find a way to recreate all that stuff as a five piece. I like the challenge!”
